The candy cane fundraiser is an inexpensive fundraiser hosted by the SSM Prom Committee during the holiday season. For just $1, students and faculty can easily spread Christmas joy.
By buying hundreds of candy canes every year, the SSM community has enabled the Prom Committee to do this fundraiser year after year. This fundraiser helps contribute to aspects of prom like blackjack and a photo booth.
Prom Committee adviser Ms. Granse explains that although a candy cane is small, it is still an easy way to uplift spirits. Ms. Granse said, “While they’re something that is relatively small, they’re a way of making people feel special because it shows them that you thought of them.”
But the newest feature of prom this year to get excited about is the venue. The Wabasha Street Caves are the 2025 venue and they have a lot to offer. This historical venue in Saint Paul used to be home to a gangster family during prohibition but now serves as an event venue. Though the venue adds a novel aspect to prom, students should still get excited about the more traditional aspects of prom like dressing up and socializing. Ms. Granse said, “It’s a fun time to socialize with friends. You get to get dressed up if that’s your thing. And just really kind of have a fun time doing something (with friends) as it comes to the end of the school year.”
Ultimately, the 2024 candy cane fundraiser was a joyful community event, and the 2025 prom will also be a memorable experience. So get excited. From candy cane sales to upcoming fundraisers in the new year, students should make sure to support the prom committee in their efforts to make prom the best it can be.
