The girls U19 team had a season full of ups and downs but they came together as one at the end of the season and made a very impressive run at nationals. This tight group had to face much adversity through the depths of the season. They swept every team at nationals until the championship game. They faced an extremely talented group of girls from Boston in the championship.
They fell 3-4 in overtime, and left Irvine, California with a silver medal. Julie Jebouskova ‘26 of the Girls U19 team said, “This just made us want it more. We are going to come back next season stronger than ever, and we are going to make sure we don’t face the same disappointment we did this year.” A great season doesn’t always end how you want it to, but that does not take away from the lessons learned and memories made.
The Leaders of Girls U16 Lead the Team to a Season of Success
Lastly, the girls U16 team had a season that required many leadership roles to be taken up on, and many roadblocks to pass by, but they took it one step at a time which ultimately led to them having a very successful season. They ended the season with a 44-9-1 record. Each game brought a new challenge and a new learning experience. They went undefeated in pool play. After a very intense shootout win in the semifinals game, they got the opportunity to play in the National Championship game. Though they were defeated 1-6, the score doesn’t reflect how the game went. It was a very tight game until the end. This was crushing to the girls, but a common theme with all three of the girl’s teams this season is coming back stronger for next season. Mila Advani ‘26 who has played in three national championship games with the girls U16 team now said, “We lost my freshman year, which just made us come back stronger my sophomore year. We won last year, and it was a feeling like none other. So, after refreshing the awful feeling of a loss, I am ready to come back next year and end my career at Shattuck off right.”
It is going to be incredibly interesting to watch all three girls teams next year and see how they use the motivation from this year to discipline themselves next year. They are going to play harder than ever and play with a chip on their shoulders. It should be very fun to watch as they grow and ultimately see all of their hard work pay off as nationals rolls around next year.
