On Friday, January 30, the SSM Boys Prep team looks to continue with their great play as they have a record of 14 wins and one loss since coming off of winter break and overall share a record of 35 wins, six losses, and two ties. Their recent 12 game win streak was lost this past weekend after suffering a 3-1 loss against Northwood in the Prep Hockey Conference. The team bounced back Sunday with a 5-1 win over South Kent Selects and Tuesday evening with a 4-2 win over the North Iowa Bulls of the North American Hockey League. Spencer Morrow ‘24, says this weekend in order to be successful, “Our team needs to block shots and have lots of energy such as the students to be in the stands cheering hard.” He believes they need their skill guys to make plays and their role guys to play the body. Morrow said, “They have an extremely strong D-core.” The defense is led by post-graduate student Morrow and the team is coached by Coach Ward and Coach Horstman.
Cornell commit Henri Ament ‘25 agrees with Spencer Morrow as he said, “They need lots of energy in the building to be inspired and to play to their best.” The team had a great turnout when North Iowa visited them Tuesday as many students and faculty showed up in support of SSM and cheered them on to the win. Ament also said, “This year we have persevered and played with a chip on our shoulder as Spencer has been firing us up.”
Forward Nolan Caffey ‘25 who is looking to win another National Championship with the team and is also committed to St. Thomas said, “Just overall the boys being so tight has led to our success on the ice.”
Noah Davidson ‘26, who is committed to Boston College said, “The success of the team is from being predictable and reliable to each other which helps our success of the team.”
Michael Katora ‘24, when asked earlier in December of the teams success, says the recent success of the team’s play leaves the boys prep team in a good mood saying, “Feeling confident after a great game against SAC as we played as one pact, and we played our best with one heartbeat.”
The Shattuck- St. Mary’s boys prep team looks to continue their second half success this upcoming weekend when they host the Chicago Mission for two games on Friday, Jan. 30 at 6:00 p.m and Saturday, Feb. 1 at noon.
