The Major Center of Excellence(COE) fall poster presentation was held on Wednesday, Dec.11 the fourth and fifth periods. It was the students’ opportunity to present their research and accomplishments over the fall semester.
The Major Center of Excellence allows students to pursue an individualized and in-depth course of study based on their personal interests. This fall semester’s poster session included various topics from the aviation industry to the business industry, reflecting the students’ diverse interests.
James Ryu, ‘27, who aspires to be a future pilot, said, “I would have never had my experience with both the flight simulator and a real airplane – opportunities if I had gone to a different school. Being in the Major COE allowed me to have such experiences. I can get real hands-on experience with the program and study how to become a pilot.”
Another student Su Jang ‘26 says that the poster session and the Major program helped her find what she wanted to do. Jang said, “I was able to get real marketing experience by utilizing the concept I learned from marketing and made the poster for the poster session that targeted the school’s students and faculty. I was also able to learn marketing as one of the branches of business and how it promotes and gets attention from audiences.”
Mr. Peck, Director of the Major COE, believes that students can learn a lot from this opportunity. He said, “I think this experience will help students in public speaking and engaging with people in an academically focused format.” He wants his students to know how much they have achieved since it’s easy to do the same thing every day and not see progress, while the poster session allows the students to step back and see what they have accomplished throughout the semester.
The students who participated in the poster session were Su Jang ‘25, James Hong ‘25, Luella Krahmer ‘26, Anthony Flagg ‘26, Payten Brown ‘27, James Ryu ‘27, Eric Zhang ‘27, Jerry Liang ‘27, Feven Hailemeskel ‘28, Ana Martinez ‘28. The students will work hard to continue their independent research for next year’s poster presentation.
